My Player of the season 2.0

By: @Zamaradi_M

1. David De Gea

Big Dave is MY PLAYER OF THE SEASON 2012/2013.

We had a 41 years old, the ever amazing Edwin van der Sar retiring in 2011. And then an announcement was made that his replacement was coming in from Atletico Madrid, his name is David de Gea and he is 20years old! It was a joke right? We are used to goal keepers being old. I admit that I was one of the people who judged DDG by his age; in all fairness, where does a 20years old get experience to protect one of the most sought after nets?

Competitive debut against Manchester City which we won, first clean sheet against Tottenham Hotspurs and his first penalty was against former Arsenal sniper, now team mate Robin van Persie; which he saved! Impressive, I changed my mind.

Then came a series of disappointments which saw him being benched by Lindegaard. Came back when Lindegaard was injured.

That was history. Now the most important thing, Why is David De Gea MY player of the season.

You don't always get a 22 years old being number one goal keeper for a club like Manchester United. He makes a mistake and it haunts him and get constant reminders that he is not good enough. The next thing you know, he is between those sticks again punching, kicking and heading balls away with everything he has (see picture here).

From the fans, De Gea has received two consecutive Player of the Month awards (February and March) and only three players have done that this season.

Second season with Manchester United Big Dave is PFA's goal keeper of the season, has kept a total of 27 clean sheets, 7 consecutive clean sheets in the League. De Gea has used almost his whole body to get us victories.

And it was not easy achieving all that. Forget the language barrier between him and the defenders, he also had to keep up with the ever changing back four through out the season.

It wasn't always easy.
De Gea and Chicharito; Teachers for the day!

Big Dave all grown up now!
