My Captain

Soon Moyes  ...... and his team will have to make one of their toughest decisions, naming the next Manchester United Captain. This captaincy is not an easy job and its definitely not as glamorous as it looks. It has its moments, lots of them actually, and it has its bad side; if being worshipped by millions of people from every corner of this world is a problem for you, then this is the worst job you can ever imagine.

I don't have a say (YET) on who will be our next Captain. But looking back at some Captains I still love and adore, here are five qualities our next Captain needs to have:

5. A hard man

When I say a hard man, I mean exactly that. Hard as steel, or harder if possible. Unbreakable man. A man who will put his body and soul on the line and literally on the ground for UTD. This will not only earn him more respect from fans but will also make it easier for the rest of the team to follow suit.

No player will dare not give 150% if they see their Captain fighting with all he has. I want a man who will be leading by example. We are the Red Army, its football but every match is a battle to us, and one thing we still have in common with Cris, we too hate to lost.

4. Loyal UTD fan

You can wear the United shirt and love United. But how much would you love United if you were not wearing that shirt? My Captain has to be a loyal United fan, with or without the Utd badge on his shirt.

This is an easy one to explain because I have like a million supporting evidence from former and current players. Let's see.... VDS taking back a birthday gift?

Our current vice Captain Patrice who sees every interview as an opportunity to tell the world how much he loves United. Eight years; this is the love that will never die.

Or Welbeck, who, in Joe Hart's words is a mad, mad, mad Man United fan.

Combine these three examples and all those retired legends who still refer to Man United as we  even though they are not at Old Trafford. Now, that's a loyal Man United fan I want in my Captain. If he can manage the loyalty levels of Sir Bobby Charlton, Giggs, Scholes or Robson, well, wouldn't that be perfect?

3. Knows UTD

You simply can't lead if you don't know your territory, your people and your history. It's just simple science (I'm sure there is a branch of science somewhere to explain this).

My Captain will say a prayer, light a candle or do whatever they do in his culture to honor their fallen soldiers on every February 6th. And same Captain will be inspired by the mere mention of May 26th.

2. Can get into anybody's face

The referee made a decision that you are not happy with, get on his face! Just don't get a red card. A rival player fouls your player and there is a commotion, pick their toughest player and get on his face! An interviewer is asking stupid questions so he can get some damaging quotes, get on his fucking face!

If one of your players needs to be put in line, well, you know what to do.

1. Hates Liverpool, with passion

Let's see from our last three Captains. Roy Keane had issues with almost everybody. Vieira might top his list of players he had issues with from rival teams but Jamie Carragher is not far down in that list. Any anger towards anything Liverpool is an anger worth releasing, any damn time.

Gary Neville. Who will ever forget that £5,000 celebration? It's not bad to remind ourselves.

And then came Nemanja Vidic. Total of eight red cards in his United career and four of those against Liverpool. His first and last red card in a United shirt were all against Liverpool. If that is not passion then I don't know what passion is.

And if more is needed, here is Sir Alex;
"My greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their fucking perch. And you can print that."
